SPCA Westchester offers diverse volunteer opportunities and is host to a vibrant volunteer community. Let us help make your service memorable!  

Please read below to learn more about our current volunteer programs. We encourage you to refer back to this page in the future to find the most up-to-date information on all of our offerings.

To Get Started Volunteering, Follow These Steps:

  1. Explore SPCA Westchester’s offerings by reading below.
  2. Submit your Volunteer Online Application. Please note: Upon submission, a confirmation message will appear that contains a link to register for General Orientation (Zoom). Applicants must use the link in the confirmation message to register for a General Orientation (Zoom).
  3. Attend the General Orientation (Zoom) on your registered date! Please Note: You will receive the zoom link via email the day before the orientation for which you registered.
  4. That’s it! You will receive further contact from SPCA Westchester after you’ve attended General Orientation (Zoom).

General Orientation (Zoom) is where you can learn more details about SPCA’s volunteer program & have questions answered in a group setting.

  1. What if I closed out the confirmation message but want to register for General Orientation (Zoom)?

Not to worry, if you submitted the online application you will have a confirmation email in your inbox that includes the link to register for General Orientation (Zoom).

  1. I submitted an online application but have not heard back about next steps.

You will receive contact from SPCA Westchester only after you’ve attended General Orientation (Zoom).

  1. What opportunities are there for children at SPCA Westchester?

Volunteer Programs:

  1. Adult Volunteers: These opportunities are for those 18 years and older. Please see below for a sampling of our areas of opportunity. While initially, some opportunities may require a 2 hour weekly commitment, preferably on the same day and time, other opportunities can be conducted on an as-needed basis!
  • Canine Care (Dog Walking & Enrichment)
  • Feline Care
  • Marketing (Photos & Videos) of Adoptable Animals for Social Media and Petfinder (must be an approved dog walker)
  • Welcoming Visitors to our Rescue Center
  • Veterinary Support
  • Administrative Support
  • Organization and Facility Beautification
  • Cleaning and Laundry
  • Special Events (Birthday Parties, Camp, Tours, etc.)
  • Community Outreach and Adoption Events, including Off-Site with the SPCA’s Mobile Adoption Unit
  • SEO and Google Grants Support
  • Transportation, and more!

We also have a Dog Day Out Program for those who want to support and help our rescue pups but are unable to become a consistent volunteer. Click Here to learn more!

  1. Rising Volunteers: These opportunities are for those 10-17 years old. Rising Volunteer events are held once monthly on Saturday mornings. Please see below for a sampling of areas of opportunity.
  • Reading to Animals
  • Enrichment for Animals
  • Adoption Event Participation
  1. Corporate Days of Service: By appointment, SPCA Westchester welcomes companies and local businesses for day of service opportunities. Volunteer activities include getting creative making toys or treats and distributing enrichment goodies to the dogs and cats, optimizing animals’ play areas, and much more!   2. Local Youth Groups/Clubs: By appointment, SPCA Westchester welcomes local youth groups from schools, scouts, troops and more for educational tours and activities.
