As we approach #GivingTuesday we look to you, our generous and dedicated supporters to help us care for animals like Marley. The SPCA has rescued 1,712 abused, abandoned and neglected dogs and cats so far this year thanks to the love and compassion of people like you. Marley and so many others depend on us for second chances and we can only help them with you by our side.
Marley, a thirteen-year-old maltese and her sister, Riley, lost the only home they’d ever known when their elderly owner passed away. Sadly, no one in the family was able to provide this bonded pair with a home so when we received a distressed call about taking them in, we immediately said yes. When Marley and Riley arrived at the SPCA, both were very shut down and scared-who could blame them? Their worlds had been turned upside down.
We soon learned that Marley had a tumor on her back-end that needed urgent veterinary treatment. However, upon intake, we were shocked at how large the tumor had become–it was the size of a softball and clearly causing her pain and discomfort, which was heartbreaking to see.
As nervous as Marley was, our staff reassured her that she was safe and slowly she started giving gentle licks and kisses while looking up at us with those big, sad eyes. Unfortunately, Marley’s tumor was neglected for far too long so the only option in a case like hers is surgery.
Your gift today ensures that every dog and cat who comes through our doors receives a second chance and has a promising future filled with love and kindness. Marley, Riley and all of us at the SPCA, thank you in advance for your kind support.
